About Larry

A Commitment to Waukesha County

Larry Nelson started out in Waukesha in 1976 as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher at Butler Middle School.  In 1994, loving the Waukesha  community, Larry purchased his historic 1890 Victorian home on Prairie Avenue.

In 2000, wanting to do more for the Waukesha community, he began public service as a City of Waukesha Alderman.  He served as Alderman for 6 years until he was elected Mayor of the City of Waukesha.

In June 2004, Larry married Dawn Borowski at the Rotunda building in Downtown Waukesha.

Larry was elected Mayor of Waukesha in 2006, taking a leave of absence from teaching while serving as Mayor.  After serving a 4 year term as Mayor, Larry returned to teaching at the Waukesha County Juvenile Center and retired from teaching in 2011.  Still wanting to continue his public service, he was elected District 18 Waukesha County Supervisor in 2012, which is his current position.
